Itinerary for the Palccoyo Mountain one-day tour:
Before 5:00 am: Pick-up at your hotel or Airbnb (pick-up time will depend on your location).
5:00-7:00 am: Bus transfer from Cusco to the town of Checacupe (3400 m.s.n.m).
7:00-7:30 am: Breakfast near Checacupe.
7:30-10:00 am: Bus transfer from Checacupe to the Palcoyo community.
10:00-11:00 am: 1-hour hike from the Palcoyo community to the Palcoyo mountain (4800 m.s.n.m).
11:00 am-1:00 pm: Free time to enjoy the colorful mountains of Palccoyo and learn about them with the guide.
1:00-1:10 pm: 10-minute hike from the Palcoyo mountain to the Colorful Stone Forest (4900 m.s.n.m).
1:10-1:50 pm: Free time to enjoy the Colorful Stone Forest.
1:50-2:30 pm: Return to the Palcoyo community on foot.
2:30-3:00 pm: Semi-buffet lunch in Cusipata.
3:00-6:30 pm: Bus transfer from Cusipata to Cusco.
6:30 pm: End of tour in Cusco, transport drops off one block from the main square.

Great day out and really enjoyed seeing the mountains. There is an easy 2 hour walk too which was very nice. Great guides.
Really amazing experience, beautiful views and overall a fun day. Definitely worth doing. We met some people who had done the main rainbow mountain and Palcoyo and said that Palcoyo was much better, less crowds and you get to see more. We definitely loved it and would recommend! We had a bad headache for the rest of the afternoon due to the altitude though so be prepared for that 🙂
This was my highlight of our trip to Peru. The value of this was top knotch. Palccoyo is by far better than the more popular rainbow mountain, Vinicunca, and our guide Jehyson made it even better. Not only do you see 3 rainbow mountains instead of 1, but you also see the stone forest and there is about 1/20th of the people at Palccoyo than Vinicunca, making it a lot more quiet and you can get a lot better pictures. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking at doing this
While everyone goes to Rainbow Mountain (as did I), many overlook Palccoyo Mountain…and to be honest, I found this tour way better. Don’t overlook Palccoyo Mountain y’all!
