Located around Salkantay Mountain (3,035 masl) surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpu and Pumasillo. Located right across the river from Santa Teresa Province of Apurimac. Choquequirao is an Inca town formed by small sites, out it has an adjoining building similar to those of other metropolis regions, called by the same name "Choquequirao" (Golden Cradle).
Pick-up from the hotel at 05:00 a.m and then go to Cachora. Coming to approximately 09.00 a.m the people of Cachora. After breakfast, we'll get ready our equipment on mules and horses and then begin our trek. After two hours of walk, we'll reach Capuliyoc (2,915 masl) from where we're gonna have a beautiful sight as the peaks and glaciers of Padrayoc, Wayna Cachora and the first reviews of the Apurimac Valley. Then, we'll descend toward Coca Masana (2,330 masl) where the climate becomes noticeably warmer and the flora and fauna begin to change. Finally, we'll arrive at "Rosalina Beach" (1,550 masl) located across the Apurimac River where we will settle and camp for the night.
This day is the hardest day of the five days. After breakfast, we'll start quite early by a steep road for 5 hours reaching approximately Raqaypata which is next Chunchullumayo River where we'll have lunch. Throughout the walk, we will observe many orchids and wild flowers as well as many birds of Raqaypata to Choquequirao (3,035 masl) walk about 2 hours to reach the archaeological site of Choquequirao and where we will observe the entrance of the sun and the flight of the Condor. Our camp will be out of the ruins.
Today, we'll turn to explore the ruins of Choquequirao. Our guide will explain the history and importance of the site. After that, you will have free time to visit different areas of the archaeological complex. In the afternoon, we'll begin our trek to Raqaypata where we will settle and camp for the night.
After breakfast, we'll continue our trek back down a steep road towards the Apurimac River where we will stop and have lunch. In the afternoon, we will climb about 4 hours to reach Coca Masana where we will camp for the night.
The day after walking, we could appreciate the Canyon that forms the Apurimac River. We will take a new road that crosses the throat of the Canyon where we'll have a breathtaking view from Wayna Qalli toward the Canyon, considered the most spectacular one in South America. Arriving at Cachora, we're gonna board our bus back to the city of Cusco.
